Instagram Finally Adds Comment Editing: Here’s How to Use It

Instagram has just rolled out one of its most requested features: the ability to edit comments after they have been posted. Users no longer need to delete and repost a comment just to fix a typo or update their thoughts, bringing Instagram in line with platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn.
The update is currently rolling out globally to all iOS and Android users.
How to Edit an Instagram Comment
You can edit any comment you have made on a post within a specific time window after posting.
- Locate your comment on a post.
- Swipe left (on iOS) or long-press (on Android) on the comment.
- Tap the Edit (pencil icon).
- Modify your text and tap Done or the checkmark to save.
Note: Edited comments will display an “Edited” label next to the timestamp, so other users will know the original text has been changed.
FAQs
Yes, Instagram currently allows you to edit comments for up to 15 minutes after they are originally posted.
Currently, this feature is primarily for comments on Feed posts and Reels. Direct Messages (DMs) already have a separate editing feature with a similar 15-minute window.
The post owner will not receive a new notification when you edit a comment, but the “Edited” tag will be visible to anyone viewing the thread.
