IPhone Air 2 Battery Grows 11%, Still Squeezes in Second Camera — iPhone

What You Need to Know

  • IPhone Air 2 battery capacity increases 11% to 3,500mAh from 3,149mAh.
  • Second Ultra Wide rear camera being added to address single-camera complaints.
  • A20 chip on 2nm process expected to improve battery efficiency.
  • Samsung CoE display technology enables thinner OLED panel, freeing internal space.

The iPhone Air launched as Apple’s thinnest iPhone yet, but its single rear camera and modest battery became the two loudest complaints almost immediately. A new supply chain leak now puts a number on how Apple plans to address at least one of those problems for the follow-up.

According to serial leaker Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the iPhone Air 2 will carry a 3,500mAh battery, up from 3,149mAh in the current model. That works out to roughly an 11% increase in raw capacity. Whether Apple achieves that through a physically larger cell, a denser one, or better internal packaging is not yet clear, but given how tightly the existing chassis is already packed, any of those paths involves real engineering tradeoffs.

A thinner display and a second camera complicate the math

Battery capacity is only part of the picture. Apple is also reportedly adding an Ultra Wide rear lens to the iPhone Air 2, responding to the most common criticism that the current single-camera setup makes it less versatile than even the cheaper iPhone 17. Fitting a second camera means redesigning internals that are already arranged around maximizing battery space, which could affect how much room remains for a larger cell.

Two other factors may help offset that pressure. The Air 2 is expected to use an A20 chip built on a 2nm process, which should bring efficiency gains that improve battery life independent of capacity. Apple is also said to be adopting Samsung’s CoE display technology, which produces a thinner OLED panel and could free up enough internal depth to accommodate a slightly larger battery without changing the device’s outer dimensions.

The iPhone Air 2 is expected alongside the standard iPhone 18 lineup in the first half of 2027. How well it sells may carry consequences beyond its own generation, with Apple’s longer-term plans for the Air line reportedly contingent on the model’s commercial performance.
