IPadOS 27 Beta Adds Liquid Glass Intensity Slider

Apple shipped the first iPadOS 27 developer beta within hours of WWDC wrapping, which means the features announced on stage are already testable on real hardware rather than sitting in a slide deck for months.

The most immediately hands-on addition is a slider that lets users control the intensity of Liquid Glass effects on the home screen. That kind of direct user control over a signature visual system is unusual for Apple, which typically ships one aesthetic and expects adoption. Whether it survives to the public release unchanged is a fair question.

The beta also includes the updated Siri experience and the new Siri chat app, both of which were central to the WWDC presentation. Performance improvements are listed alongside these, though “smoother” is the kind of claim that only extended testing on older iPad hardware will actually validate.

Developers can access the build now through Settings on any enrolled device. A few practical details apply:

• Bug reports submitted now feed directly into Apple’s development cycle before the public beta opens

The public beta program typically opens a few weeks after the developer seed, which would put broader access sometime in July. The final release historically lands in September alongside new hardware.

First betas tend to be rough around the edges by design, and Apple uses the gap between now and fall to strip out instabilities before general availability. The Liquid Glass slider is a telling early signal: shipping that control in beta one suggests Apple wants real-world feedback on how aggressively users actually want the transparency effects dialed back, rather than assuming the default setting will land well.
