Javier Bardem playing Max Cady, a convicted murderer released from prison who returns to terrorize the married attorneys connected to his case, is the sharpest casting decision Apple TV has made in a while. The series, built around that premise, has been unfolding since its June 5 premiere with a weekly release schedule that runs through the end of July.
Cape Fear stars Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson as Anna and Tom Bowden, two attorneys whose domestic stability collapses when Cady reappears. The supporting cast includes CCH Pounder, Juliette Lewis, and Malia Pyles, among others. Bardem’s take on Cady as a man weaponizing the legal system’s own logic against the people who used it is the tension the show keeps pulling on.
The season runs 10 episodes, with the first two dropping together on premiere day and the rest arriving each Friday. Episode 6, titled “Possum,” lands on July 3, with Apple TV describing it as the Bowden family adjusting to a new neighbor while Natalie begins questioning her past.
