Two weeks after the WWDC 2026 keynote, Apple has pushed the second beta of iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 to registered developers. The update arrives through the standard path: Settings, General, Software Update.

The headline feature is Siri AI, a reworked assistant that functions more like a chatbot in the vein of ChatGPT. It pulls from general world knowledge, personal data in apps like Messages and Mail, and real-time onscreen context. Apple is also shipping a standalone Siri app to house conversations, along with a systemwide Write with Siri tool for generating or refining text.

Visual Intelligence Gets a New Home

One of the quieter structural changes is where Visual Intelligence now lives. Apple has moved it into the Camera app as a dedicated Siri mode, a decision that reframes the camera as an AI input surface rather than just a photography tool. That repositioning fits a broader pattern: Apple has also been exploring wearable visual AI hardware intended to work alongside Apple Intelligence. The Camera app integration makes the iPhone itself a more direct part of that strategy.

Performance gets attention in this release too. Apple lists faster app launches, quicker keyboard appearance, speedier AirDrop transfers, and improved handoff between Wi-Fi and cellular. The company says the gains apply even on older iPhones, which is the kind of claim that tends to get tested hard once public betas begin circulating.

Liquid Glass, the visual design language Apple introduced with iOS 27, picks up a transparency slider in this build. It is a small concession to users who found the default look too heavy, and it suggests Apple is paying attention to early feedback from the first beta cycle.

For developers tracking the broader iOS 27 release timeline, the two-week cadence between betas is consistent with prior years. A public beta is the next expected milestone before a fall release.
