IPhone 18 Pro Likely Starting at $1,399, Up $270 From iPhone 17 — AI

What You Need to Know

  • Apple raised prices across hardware lineup by $30 to $1,300, averaging $246.67 per product.
  • DRAM and flash storage costs projected to quadruple by fall, significantly impacting component expenses.
  • IPhone 18 Pro bill of materials estimated to rise 25% to approximately $726 from $582.
  • IPhone 18 Pro expected to start at $1,299 or higher due to component costs and camera upgrades.

Apple’s broader price increases across nearly its entire hardware lineup arrived this week, but the more telling number is buried in the component forecasts: DRAM and flash storage costs are projected to roughly quadruple by fall, pushing the margin math on Pro models into territory that makes a $200 to $300 price jump look conservative rather than opportunistic.

The wave of hikes hit HomePod mini, HomePod, Apple TV, the full iPad line, the full Mac line, and Vision Pro, with increases ranging from $30 on the HomePod mini to $1,300 on the high-end Mac Studio, averaging $246.67 across affected products. The iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods, Studio Display, and accessories were left untouched for now. CEO Tim Cook told the Wall Street Journal that clarity on iPhone pricing would come at the September launch, which is about as close to a confirmation as Apple ever offers before the fact.

What the iPhone 18 Pro numbers actually suggest

TechInsights estimates the iPhone 17 Pro’s bill of materials at around $582, rising roughly 25% to approximately $726 for its successor. Preserving current margins would require a price increase of about $270, though Apple’s preference for round-number pricing makes $1,299 the more likely floor. Factor in a camera system that analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says could cost about 50% more than the previous generation, and the Wall Street Journal estimates a starting price of $1,399 or higher, with the Pro Max likely starting $100 above that.

The iPhone 18 Pro is also expected to carry four new colors including Dark Cherry, a muted wine-red. Leaker Fixed Focus Digital has warned the new finishes could be prone to the same chipping issues seen on last year’s Cosmic Orange and Dark Blue, which Apple has treated as a material characteristic rather than a defect.

Camera-equipped AirPods, originally targeted for 2026, have slipped to 2027 due to Apple’s AI development challenges. The cameras sit in the stems and are designed to feed environmental information to Siri for contextual awareness, directions, and object recognition rather than photography. An indicator light will signal to bystanders when the cameras are active.
