IOS 27 Public Beta Arrives This Month, Siri AI Behind Waitlist

Apple has confirmed the iOS 27 public beta is coming this month, following its earlier announcement that July would bring the first public access to the software. Based on the pattern from iOS 26 and iOS 27 release cycles, the public beta typically drops between July 11 and July 24, trailing the third or fourth developer beta.

Anyone can sign up for free at beta.apple.com, then navigate to Settings, General, Software Update, and Beta Updates to select the iOS 27 Public Beta option. For those who cannot wait, the developer beta is already available at no cost as well.

The usual caveats apply. Public betas are more stable than developer betas, but neither is production software. Bugs, performance issues, and app compatibility problems are common, and problems can extend to CarPlay. Backing up before installing is strongly recommended, and using a secondary device is the safer approach if one is available.

iOS 27 runs on the iPhone 11 and newer, but the hardware cutoff for Apple Intelligence features is the iPhone 15 Pro. The rebuilt Siri assistant is not simply available on install. Apple is rolling it out through a waitlist, accessible inside Settings under Siri, and access can take several weeks to arrive.

What the update actually includes

Beyond the new Siri, which is itself still gated behind a waitlist, joining the Siri AI waitlist through iOS 27 settings is straightforward once the beta is installed. The broader update also includes Liquid Glass design changes, performance improvements, and expanded child safety features. The design overhaul is visible to anyone on compatible hardware, even without Apple Intelligence access.
