The disagreement among analysts tracks that internal uncertainty. Wayne Ma of The Information reports Apple is targeting a single pinhole camera with no Dynamic Island at all, while Mark Gurman at Bloomberg and display analyst Ross Young both say a slimmed-down Dynamic Island will remain. Leaker “Ice Universe” on Weibo puts numbers on the shrinkage: roughly 13.5mm wide, down from around 20.7mm on current models, a reduction of approximately 35%.
Thicker, Heavier, Longer-Lasting
The battery story is more straightforward. A Weibo leaker known as Digital Chat Station claims the iPhone 18 Pro Max will carry a 5,100 to 5,200 mAh cell, up from the 5,088 mAh pack in the iPhone 17 Pro Max. A separate rumor ties that to a slightly thicker chassis, pushing the device’s weight to around 243 grams, which would make it heavier than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, currently Apple’s heaviest production model.
Beyond the front and the battery, most of the hardware is expected to hold steady. Display sizes remain at 6.3 and 6.9 inches, the triangular rear camera plateau carries over from the iPhone 17 Pro, and the iPhone 18 Pro lineup is expected to adopt LTPO+ display technology for improved power efficiency. Apple is also said to be updating the rear glass replacement process to reduce the color difference between the Ceramic Shield 2 and the aluminum frame.
All of this arrives in the context of a broader structural shift: Apple is reportedly splitting its annual iPhone launch into two phases, with the Pro models and a rumored foldable shipping in September 2026 and the standard lineup following in spring 2027.
